Description
Summary:Idealab is a company focused on the development of appropriate technology products. Since its establishment in 2019, Idealab has upheld the principles of people, planet, profit, which help guides its products sustainable development. Founded during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Idealab envisions improving people's lives through the products developed by the company. However, during its journey, the company has encountered several obstacles in its project execution. Project planned of completion within a short timeframe has been hindered by slow decision-making, ineffective project execution, and underutilization of workforce. These issues are believed to arise due to the lack of knowledge management implementation within the company. Hence, this research aims to design a knowledge management tool or method that can assist Idealab. The designing of a knowledge management tool for the company begins with the identification of the business processes conducted by the company and its required knowledge. Business process mapping is carried out using the APQC framework, while the required knowledge for each business process is mapped based on the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) model. From the mapping results using the APO model, it is revealed that there are certain knowledge areas that do not fulfill the knowledge process criteria outlined in the APO model. The design of the knowledge management tool is based on the mapping results from the APO model, taking into consideration the company's limitations. It results in the design of periodic video communication and webinar activities and the implementation of a mentor/mentee scheme for selected interns and new employees.
