Description
Summary:Zinc-ion Batteries are a safe and cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion batteries for energy storage device. However, the current performance of zinc ion battery not yet optimal due to the use of binders which reduce the active surface area of the cathode material and the current collector which increases the overall weight of the battery. To address this limitation, a promising solution lies in the development of binder-free and freestanding cathodes. Carbon nanofiber (CNF), synthesized using the electrospinning method, offers an ideal framework for binder-free cathodes due to its exceptional chemical stability and conductivity. While current research on binder-free CNF-based cathodes has primarily focused on vanadium materials, it is important to consider the advantages of manganese-based cathodes which possess a high theoretical capacity (308 mA h g-1), non-toxic, and cost-effective. In this study, we successfully synthesized carbon nano fiber - manganese monoxide composite (MnO@CNF) material using the electrospinning method. The resulting MnO@CNF material exhibited excellent structural integrity, with homogeneous distribution of MnO on carbon nanofibers measuring 650 nm in diameter. Through cycling test at 0.05 mA cm-2, the MnO@CNF cathode demonstrated a specific capacity of 235.428 mA h g-1 with a coulombic efficiency of 89.91% at the 50th cycle. These findings highlight the promising performance of the MnO@CNF cathode fabricated through the electrospinning process for zinc-ion batteries.
