Description
Summary:Using modified asphalt in the flexible pavement is one alternative solution to overcome the numerous issues of asphalt mix damage. Modified asphalt is a technology that alters the rheological properties of asphalt by adding certain materials such as polymers. Performance Grade (PG) asphalt is one of the developments in modified asphalt based on asphalt performance. This research involves mixing LDPE plastic (plastomer) into PG76 Asphalt with SBS content (elastomer). In addition to comparing the rheology of LDPE Asphalt (LDPE-modified PG76 Asphalt) and PG76 Asphalt through dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) testing, this research also compares the resistance of asphalt mixtures through Marshall Immersion, Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS), and Wheel Tracking tests using a Wheel Tracking Machine (WTM). AC-BC gradation and Marshall Method were selected as the type of mixture and the method for determining the OAC. This research also compares the fatigue cracking resistance of both types of asphalt mixtures using a Four-Point Bending (4PB) apparatus. The DSR test results indicate that adding 6% LDPE plastic to PG76 Asphalt improves the performance grade (PG) to PG82 Asphalt. LDPE 6% Asphalt Mixture achieves a value of 99.79% for the Residual Strength Index (RSI) and dynamic stability values of 18,375 and 26,250 track/mm (dry and wet conditions), which are higher than those of PG76 Asphalt Mixture with RSI values of 98.39% and dynamic stability values of 9,750 and 10,500 track/mm (dry and wet conditions). The ITS test results yield a Tensile Strength Ratio (TSR) value of 83.51% for the LDPE 6% Asphalt Mixture, lower than the TSR value of 97.77% for the PG76 Asphalt Mixture. In the fatigue test with a strain of 600??, LDPE 6% Asphalt Mixture exhibits a shorter fatigue life, while at a strain of 500??, it shows a longer fatigue life compared to the PG76 Asphalt Mixture.
