DESIGN OF THE REINTRODUCTION AREA OF THE JAVAN SLOW LORISES (NYCTICEBUS JAVANICUS) AT THE MASIGIT KAREUMBI HUNTING RESERVE

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/73803 Masigit Kareumbi Hunting Reserve (TBMK) is a conservation area which is the natural habitat of the Javan slow loris (Nycticebus javanicus). Currently, the Javan slow loris continues to experience a decline in population due to illegal trade and narrowing of its habitat so that most of it is found outside conservation areas. In 2019-2020, TBMK was chosen as the location for the reintroduction of the Javan slow loris by the BBKSDA Jawa Barat and IAR Indonesia. However, in general, reintroduction activities have a fairly low success rate. Monitoring has also not been carried out to see the condition of the Javan slow loris in TBMK. Distribution pattern modeling shows that the Javan slow loris in TBMK tends to congregate around the Cimulu enclave. This gives an indication of low dispersal rates which may be due to the availability of feed or other supporting vegetation. This statement was validated through research on feed availability that there was a tendency to decrease the availability of forage vegetation as it moved away from the Cimulu enclave. In addition, research on the condition of supporting vegetation also shows that some locations have low canopy connectivity making it difficult for slow lorises to spread over a wider area. This design aims to design an area specifically for the reintroduction of the Javan slow loris (Nycticebus javanicus) in the Masigit Kareumbi Hunting Reserve. The design will be realized by creating a barrier area to limit human interaction with the Javan slow loris and carrying out vegetation enrichment to increase connectivity and feed availability. The barrier area is designed with a width of 325 m and an area of 82.42 ha. An area of 31 ha of the barrier area with very low and low FCD categories will be planted with 7 native species that are not Javan slow loris food. Planting will be carried out with the target of producing a distance between crowns of 3 m at maximum growth conditions to limit the movement of the Javan slow loris so that in 1 ha 64 individuals will be planted. In implementation, the design will be carried out through 3 stages, namely nursery, barrier and vegetation enrichment. The time needed to complete the design is 5 years. This design will require a budget of IDR 2,984,000,000.00. It is hoped that the design of the area will allow the Javan slow loris in TBMK to spread over a wider area to the protection block. Furthermore, it is hoped that this design can make TBMK a basis for reintroduction activities and preserve more Javan slow lorises. text |
