SENEN INTEGRATED TRANSIT: INTEGRATED BUS TERMINAL IN SENEN DISTRICT, JAKARTA

Terminal is an important element in the operational of Transjakarta, the company behind Jakarta’s city bus system. Therefore, we have to pay special attention to its comfort, safety, and efficiency. The district of Senen, especially around the existing Senen Bus Terminal, have some problems in terms of accessibility, circulation, etc. Hence, the architectural intervention taken is supposed to be designing an integrated bus terminal. In the future, the terminal could be a public space that is free for developing communities nearby to use. This project’s vision is increasing the general public’s interest in using public transportation and bringing back the livelihoods of the Senen community. The four missions of this project are integrating terminal and markets in Senen, creating a universal and inclusive environment for all users, increasing the accessibility of the terminal itself and surrounding markets, also accommodating the popular activities and activities of the communities around Senen or Jakarta. This is a redesign project of the existing Senen Bus Terminal. The transportation modes included in this project are Transjakarta city buses, Mikrotrans or mikrolets and intercity buses. It is planned to be built on the existing terminal’s area and the green open space between Pasar Inpres and Pasar Induk Senen, located in Pasar Senen Street, Senen District, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The issues covered are the accessibility of the site and its surrounding area, being the place where popular activities takes place and local communities grow, and the enhancement of the district’s image in accordance with its own character and history. This project consists of one main building, integrated into the surrounding markets and shopping centres, with one supporting building. The ground floor, which is all a public zone, is used for the main activity of the terminal, at the same level as the green open spaces and vehicles circulation. The terminal administration (semiprivate zone) and community activities (both public and semiprivate zone) are located in the second floor of the main building. It also has a public-accessible rooftop garden and a basement parking lot. The supporting building is functioning as a workshop to support the terminal.
