Transformer oil dielectric characteristic depends on chemical and physical properties of transformer oil such as impurities, moisture, dissolved gasses, acidity, color, viscosity etc.

The lifetime of transformer depends on its insulating oil age. Operating transformer with high loading causes high electromagnetic fields, and high temperature. It causes impurities that decrease quality of transformer oil. The impurities increase as well as the increase of transformer oil operating time. To observe transformer loading effects on dielectric characteristic of transformer oil, we need some experiments with various oil samples at different loading.

Experiments were conducted by using samples obtain from online transformers and transformer workshop. The observed characteristics were electrical strength, dissipation factor, relative permittivity, acidity, dissolved gas, color and viscosity.

Experimental results showed that high loading of transformer for along time would reduce insulation quality of oil transformer.
text
