Summary: | The condition of Indonesia's forests is getting worse every year, and at least one percent is
damaged. If this continues to happen, then the sustainability of forests and the resources
contained therein will be threatened so that their sustainability will impact various sectors, both
in Indonesia and even the world. Responding to this, Indonesia continues to make efforts to
improve, including the existence of social forestry schemes, one of which is customary forest
managed by indigenous peoples. One of the customary forests in Indonesia is the Imbo Putui
Customary Forest. To see its sustainability, an analysis of the sustainability of the Imbo Putui
customary forest was carried out. This research was conducted with the aim of (1) determining
the value of distribution of priority plants that are utilized, (2) knowing the level of local
community participation in customary forest management (3) examining patterns of
relationship between customary forest management institutions, (4) assessing the status of
sustainability which includes dimensions environmental, social, economic, and institutional.
The research was conducted using a survey method by distributing questionnaires, field
observations, interviews, and literature study. Determination of the sample using purposive
sampling method. Analysis was carried out using GIS methods, frequency analysis, and RAPCF
(Rapid Appraisal for Customary Forest) MDS (multidimensi scaling). The results showed
that: (1) the priority plants used in HA Imbo Putui consisted of (a) kulim (Scorodocarpus
borneensis) which has a high distribution value of 18,277 ha, (b) rattan plants (Calamus
manan) which has a high distribution value with an area of 6.764 ha, and (c) sangai plants
(Eleidoxa conferta) which has a high distribution value with an area of 2.77 (2) the participation
of indigenous peoples of the Petapahan country is quite good with a percentage of 60.04% (3)
the relationship pattern between LPHA and other institutions adat in the management of HA
Imbo Putui shows that the governance system and customary rules that are applied adhere to
the statutory law system, are managed directly by LPHA and are accompanied by customary
institutions and village heads and place the highest decision results in consensus deliberations
(4) the management of Imbo Putui Customary Forest is in moderate or moderately sustainable
category with an index value of 70.44. To increase the sustainability of the Imbo Putui
customary forest, it is recommended nd several strategies: (1) encourage the cultivation of
plants that are used such as sangai plants (Eleidoxa converta) accompanied by education
starting from land management to post-harvest in areas with high potential distribution values;
(2) encouragement to increase community participation, especially in the implementation
aspect (3) institutional capacity strengthening through regular assistance to customary forest
managers and forest product beneficiaries from relevant stakeholders; (4) financial support or
economic stimulus from relevant stakeholders, as well as increasing the selling value of local
products through education and guidance to communities who use forest products.
