STUDY OF URBAN COOLING CONCEPT IMPLEMENTATION IN KARET TENGSIN PLATINUM INTEGRETED AREA FOR URBAN HEAT ISLAND (UHI) MITIGATION

The increasing urbanization has led to changes in land use and increased urban activities, resulting in the emergence of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon, particularly in urban areas. The Karet Tengsin Platinum area is one of the strategically located integrated superblock areas in Jakarta...

The Karet Tengsin Platinum area is one of the strategically located integrated superblock areas in Jakarta that is undergoing rapid development. The strategic location characteristics of the area have caused rapid development and the potential for increased UHI intensity in the area. To anticipate this, the Karet Tengsin Platinum area needs to be prepared for UHI mitigation. The urban cooling approach can be one of the design approaches to assess the readiness of UHI mitigation in the area. Therefore, a study was conducted regarding the readiness of the Karet Tengsin Platinum area for UHI mitigation based on the urban cooling approach. This research was conducted in two stages, which involved assessment to evaluate the fulfillment of urban cooling principles through a semievaluation and assessment to determine the heat mitigation index of the area through urban cooling modeling using InVEST 3.12.1 application. The analysis results showed that the area design only fulfilled 41.7% of the urban cooling principles, and 92.8% of the area had a very poor heat mitigation index. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the area design still has a low readiness for UHI mitigation. Therefore, this research provides several recommendations that are expected to assist the government, planners, and urban designers in integrating urban cooling strategies in designing the area to mitigate UHI. text
