SALT REACTION WITH DICARBOXYLIC ACID TO IMPROVE THE STRUCTURAL STABILITY OF LEVOFLOXACIN AND CIPROFLOXACIN
Levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin are fluoroquinolone antibiotics which are widely used in Indonesia. These antibiotics have poor stability due to lighting and humidity which may change its physicochemical properties and content. This research aims to make the reaction between fluoroquinolones an...

This research aims to make the reaction between fluoroquinolones and dicarboxylic acids produce compounds that are more stable to lighting and humidity. The experiment begins with stoichiometric screening to determine the appropriate mol ratio using thermal analysis which showed that fluoroquinolones-dicarboxylates could react at a mol ratio of 1:1. Characterization was then carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and Powder X-Ray Diffractometry (PXRD). Stability test due to lighting and humidity was carried out on the salts produced. Based on the research data, the reaction that occurs produces fluoroquinolone-dicarboxylate salts. Structurally, there were indications of ionic interactions from the results of FTIR analysis which were confirmed by 1H-NMR for structure elucidation. These salts proved organoleptically more stable to lighting and humidity than the original antibiotics. text |

Levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin are fluoroquinolone antibiotics which are widely used in Indonesia.
These antibiotics have poor stability due to lighting and humidity which may change its
physicochemical properties and content. This research aims to make the reaction between
fluoroquinolones and dicarboxylic acids produce compounds that are more stable to lighting and
humidity. The experiment begins with stoichiometric screening to determine the appropriate mol
ratio using thermal analysis which showed that fluoroquinolones-dicarboxylates could react at a
mol ratio of 1:1. Characterization was then carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectroscopy (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and Powder X-Ray Diffractometry
(PXRD). Stability test due to lighting and humidity was carried out on the salts produced. Based on
the research data, the reaction that occurs produces fluoroquinolone-dicarboxylate salts.
Structurally, there were indications of ionic interactions from the results of FTIR analysis which
were confirmed by 1H-NMR for structure elucidation. These salts proved organoleptically more
stable to lighting and humidity than the original antibiotics.
