Description
Summary:This research presents a system dynamics approach to develop and assess a model for sustainable water management in underground mining operations. The study focuses on identifying key factors influencing water availability, quality, and usage in underground mining, including groundwater seepage, dewatering flows, water recycling efforts, and community water needs. The developed model utilizes a system dynamics framework to simulate complex interactions and feedback within the water management system. Through scenario simulations, the model allows for the evaluation of different water management strategies and the identification of effective approaches. Case studies are conducted in underground mining operations to apply and test the model in various operational contexts. The scenarios examined include baseline conditions, process optimization, and sustainable water management. Key performance indicators such as mine water availability, wastewater discharge, and environmental impacts are used to assess the effectiveness of each scenario. The research findings emphasize the significance of utilizing existing seepage water through appropriate infrastructure, such as dams and piping systems, to enhance water supply and availability. The addition of water treatment facilities and pumping systems can optimize water recycling efforts and minimize environmental impacts. This research provides stakeholders with a valuable framework for making informed decisions regarding sustainable water management in underground mining operations. By considering the complexity of the water management system and its influencing factors, decision-makers can optimize water management practices for sustainable underground mining operations.
