Coal Upgrading Technology (CUT) is one of technology that can be used to improve the quality of coal by superheated steam drying technique. Recently, the development of this technology has already entered the pilot scale phase which is designed to be operated at capacity 7 ton/h and produce 5% moisture dried coal. The commissioning stage of CUT Pilot Plant has already started. Commissioning is a sistematic process to ensure that CUT Pilot Plant system is worked well refers to the design. The process itself divided into three phases: pre-commissioning, subsystems test, and then system tests which include quality, capacity and efficiency of the system. The commissioning results of CUT Pilot Plant show that some of the parameters in the subsystem is not achieved. The particle size and the capacity of coal preparation and transportation plant are still not match with the design. Besides that, the operating condition of drying plant are not fully achieved, especially the operating pressure and flow of fluidization medium. Also, the result of briquetting plant trial using coal and clay shows that the briquette cavity need to be modified to enable the briquette formed dropped off from the cavity. In order to get a good result from this pilot plant, some modification and improvement need to be done until the parameters of each subsystem are achieved. text
