Summary:In Indonesia, Juvenile Detention Facility (referred to as Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak) carries out the function of fostering Children in Conflict with the Law, as well as fulfilling the rights of children under the Law No. 11 of 2021. In the case study of the Bandung Juvenile Detention Facility (LPKA Bandung), the incarceration system is executed using an educative and rehabilitative approach. This project concentrates on the role of designed facility in rehabilitation and education at LPKA, and the development of design concepts that can optimize correctional process at LPKA Bandung. The data collection method relies on literature studies, observations, and interviews to gather information about the current Sukamiskin LPKA facilities. A benchmarking study is carried out to obtain design criteria, which will be implemented in a new design. The design approach utilized in the process is the humanist design approach, which does not make the facility design a punishment for its users. The facility design includes 4 functional facilities, namely (1) Residential, (2) Education Center, (3) Rehabilitation Center, and (4) Office. Each functional facility design evaluates the existing facility, reviews the design criteria in the context of the humanist design and space requirements, and incorporates them into the new design.
