Summary:Asset management is one aspect that influences local governments in making decisions for regional development planning, especially land and buildings. By knowing the existence and potential of assets owned by the region, the local government can arrange asset management which consists of a series of activity stages. Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency is a newly established regency, asset management has not been a major concern even though asset management is important to meet regional needs. Therefore, this study is important to see the extent to which asset management has been implemented and the structure of asset management issues. This study is to formulate recommendations for improving land and building asset management that can be implemented by the Regional Government of Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency. This research reviews the ideal variables and indicators of regional land and building asset management, the characteristics of land and building asset management owned by the Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir District Government, the structure of the problem of implementing land and building asset management, aspects considered and components that can be regulated in land and building asset management. This type of research is evaluative research. The approach in the research of land and building asset management uses quasi-evaluation. The results showed that the management of land and building assets in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency was not optimal as seen by the existence of fourteen problems spread across the variables of asset administration, asset optimization, and asset evaluation. The problems are caused by aspects of human resources, institutions, and regulations in several components of the implementation of land and building asset management in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency. Recommendations that can be made in handling human resource aspects require steps such as training and technical guidance. Efforts in handling institutional issues such as intensive communication between work units and collaboration between human resources are also important for knowledge exchange. In addition, the preparation of clear regulations for each stage of asset management needs to be done to ensure structured and compliant implementation.
