Description
Summary:PT X is a chemical manufacturer producing chemicals for water treatment, oil and gas, automotive, mining, and sugar processing industry. To ensure the smoothness of its business process, especially in the production process, PT X needs high quality raw material. Raw material purchasing becomes a critical process since it takes around 60-65% of sales revenue. Supplier selection process then becomes a critical factor as well since this process is done for 50 raw material per 3 months. This process is managed by the supply chain manager of PT X. The supply chain manager of PT X evaluates suppliers by comparing the price and cost of money given by the supplier for each raw material. The evaluation process is manually done with the help of Microsoft Excel. This manual process becomes inefficient since the number of suppliers evaluated increases. This research proposes a decision support system, that includes designing model, criteria, and prototype, for the supplier selection process of PT X. The design process of the decision support system refers to DSS Development Life Cycle and Multi-criteria Decision Analysis Framework. In general, this research starts from identifying existing conditions, identifying requirements, designing subsystems of decision support system and prototype, until testing prototype. This research resulted in the design of a decision support system for supplier selection that combines Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. This proposed system uses price, lead time, performance rating, and saving percentage to evaluate supplier. The prototype designed for this research utilizes Microsoft Excel with the help of visual basic for application. The prototype has been tested and validated by the Supply Chain Manager and therefore can be implemented by making sure of data availability and training of system first.
