Description
Summary:The recent increase in the Earth's temperature can be a source of concern that no one should underestimate. In early June 2023, temperature increases of more than 1.5°C were recorded. This temperature increase has reached the limit set by the UNFCC at the Conference of the Parties 2026 (COP26) held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, in 2021. The increase in the earth's temperature is caused by an increase in carbon emissions in the Earth's atmosphere. The amount of carbon emissions produced in 2022 reached 36.1 Gt CO2, which increased by 1.5% compared to 2021. In order for the increase in the Earth's temperature to be maintained, the carbon emissions produced must be able to equal the carbon emissions that can be absorbed back by the earth (net-zero emission). The Indonesian government has set a target of reducing carbon emissions by 29% through its own efforts and 41% if it uses international assistance by 2030. To be able to support the government program, one way that can be done is to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. The use of converter kits on fishing boats that divert fuel energy sources to LPG gas can be one solution to the problem. This research will use the net carbon saving method to determine whether the Converter Kit product can help reduce carbon emissions or not. Net carbon savings themselves are obtained by finding the intersection point where the amount of carbon emissions saved from using the Converter Kit intersects with the amount of carbon emissions released from the Converter Kit product. The cut-off point shows how far the fishing boat must travel for carbon emissions to start decreasing. The amount of carbon emissions that can be saved is 0.36687 kg CO2-E/km. Meanwhile, the amount of carbon emissions released from the converter kit production process is 12,99361 kg CO2. Net carbon savings can be achieved when the fishing boat has reached a distance of 35.417 km. This indicates that after the boat mileage exceeds 36 km, carbon emissions can be saved by 0.36687 kg CO2 per kilometer of distance travelled.
