Summary: | Mangunharjo Beach (Semarang, East Java), like many other beaches along the
northern cost of the island of Java, has been experiencing changes on their
coastline. These changes, caused in parts due to land subsidence, erosion and
abrasion, as well as sedimentation, which negatively impacted the farming and
agricultural activities in the area. This paper studies the scale and impact of the
erosion and sedimentation along the coastline of Mangunhajro Beach, by
interpreting the difference in tide measurement at the same location in 2019 and
2022. The primary data used in this paper are collected using bathymetry, and have
referential difference of 0.43 metres that might affect the tidal forecasting.
Hydrodynamic modelling of the location, simulated using Delft3D, showed that in
2021, the coastline had lost 0.03-0.05 meter in thickness due to erosion. Sediment
transport suspension of 0.0015-0.0030 kg/m3 was observed to be moving eastward
during wet season (Musim Barat) and westward during dry season (Musim Timur),
thus resulting in the changes to the coastline.
