The iron pallet industry in Purwakarta is a medium-scale manufacturing industry of structural metal products that needs human workforce in relation to produce output. Interactions between machines and human, pose risks for workers to be exposed to ergonomic risk factor that lead to work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Prolonged exposure to ergonomic risk factor can result in injury, illness, permanent multiple body damage and debilitating conditions. Based on the results of preliminary observation, a number of factors were indicated that workers were exposed to potential hazards of ergonomic risk factors as seen from the worker's posture and the workstation used. In addition, the management also said that there had not been a specific division assigned to supervise occupational health and safety in company. Besides, ergonomic assessment has never been carried out in this company. This research was conducted to evaluate ergonomic risk factor experienced by workers on the iron-division in one of the iron pallet industries in Purwakarta. The results will also use to design ergonomic solutions to minimize the potential hazards that occur. The reference standard used in this research is the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 9011:2021 entitled “Measurement and Evaluation of Potential Ergonomic Hazards in the Workplace”. Result showed that 18 out of 19 workers had complaints of pain and discomfort due to work and 11 of them had a high level of risk of Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders. This was in line with the results of the evaluation which showed that all workstations in the iron-division have an ergonomic risk factor score more than 7 and they were categorized as dangerous. Therefore, it is necessary to design an intervention strategy to minimize this hazard. The proposed improvement solutions include changing the design of work desks and chairs used at workstations, adding tools to reduce fatigue and discomfort for each workstation. text
