DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF 2X2 MIMO GENERALIZED FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING (GFDM) SYSTEM TRANSMITTER USING SDR

The multi-input multi-output (MIMO) scheme is a way of exploiting multipath propagation, an object usually associated with ruining a signal’s transmission, such that it helps in communication links, particularly ones that are urban. MIMO usage in cellular technology has been going on since the fourth generation (4G) of cellular phones. However, as with 4G changing into the fifth generation (5G), further research into applying MIMO into multi-carrier modulation schemes is needed. The standard for 4G communications is using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), alongside its already developing MIMO application. However, it may be possible for the modulation scheme for multi-carrier services to change into one of its alternatives, such as Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) Within this final project, the research is meant to help create a prototype system of MIMO-GFDM. This system is designed with MATLAB as the software part, and SDR as its hardware. The end result is a system that can transmit a MIMO-GFDM signal through a wireless channel with a carrier frequency of 3.5 GHz. Within an anechoic chamber, using a configuration of a 2x2 antenna setup with 2 meters between the transmitter and receiver, the system records a BER of 0.019 and a PAPR of 17.5 dB, lower than those of a 1x1 antenna setup within the same configuration. text
