MODELLING OF TREE GROWTH AND CARBON STOCK POTENTIAL BASED ON PLANT FUNCTIONAL TYPES (PFTS) USING THE CO2FIX MODEL AS CONSIDERATION OF IBU KOTA NUSANTARA REFORESTATION

In its design, reforestation needs to consider the aspect of carbon sequestration so that the selection of the right species is important. In this case, it is necessary to know the potential for carbon storage and absorption of species, but the wide variety of species in Kalimantan makes exploring this potential difficult to do. Therefore, this study uses the Plant Functional Types (PFTs) approach, a framework for grouping species based on their functional characteristics (growth rate and shade tolerance) to review long-term carbon storage and accumulation using the CO2FIX model. The results showed that carbon storage and accumulation varied in the 7 groups of PFTs. The highest carbon storage in the 100-year period was obtained by the SG-ST (slow growing-shade tolerant) group of 486.62 MgC/ha (monoculture) and 116.81 MgC/ha (polyculture). Meanwhile, the average PFTs carbon storage accumulation rate in the monoculture scenario was in the range of 2.87 – 4.82 MgC/ha/year and in the combination of all PFTs in the polyculture scenario it was 4.97 MgC/ha/year. text
