The plastic zone is a zone that indicates plastic deformation causing failure in the stope. The finite element method is used to analyze the thickness of the plastic zone. In this research, a mesh dependence study was carried out on the effect of the number of mesh elements on the thickness of the plastic zone around the stope. The number of mesh elements and the vertical-horizontal stress conditions in the stope are varied by looking at the results of measuring the thickness of the plastic zone on the sides of the roof-floor and stope walls. The stope modeling was carried out using RS2 software with dimensions of 5 x 5 meters and a wall slope of 800. The stope is at a depth of 500 meters. The results of measurements of the thickness of the plastic zone show a trend that increases logarithmically as the number of mesh elements increases with a strong correlation. In addition, the difference in the magnitude of the vertical and horizontal stresses has an influence and causes a difference in the thickness of the plastic zone on the roof- floor and walls of the stope. text
