Summary: | Environmental changes caused by environmental pollution have been affecting the
existence and sustainability of the lives of the organisms in it. The organism that
lives around the river always depends on one another. One of the affected organisms
is the dragonfly. The ecosystem of dragonflies, which lives around the river
environment, is disrupted by river pollution. Nowadays, the existence of
dragonflies, as one of the indicators of a clean water environment indicator (a
bioindicator), has increasingly disappeared from their habitat. Besides being a
bioindicator, both as a nymph and an adult, dragonfly also functions as predator
insect, preying on various insects and other organisms, including rice pests.
This phenomenon has inspired the creation of installation art. Focusing on
exploring the dragonflies’ lives has brought the artist to the dystopian disaster of
the dragonflies’ ecology. The purpose of this art is to remind the importance of
understanding the sustainability of nature as a step toward building a better life
with it. The merit of this art is to raise public awareness to learn and broaden their
knowledge of installation arts and ecology. The method used in this creation is
based on research and practice conducted by Malins, Ure, and Gray. This creation
involved three stages: exploration, experimentation, and evaluation. Through these
stages, a work of installation art entitled "Mutation of Corrosion" was successfully
created with a visual form consisting of eight hanging dragonflies, cast plastic that
underwent a corrosion process, and one hundred corroded dragonfly wings. |
