Traditional carvings are considered incompatible when used as decorative elements in modern buildings. Carvings that contain traditional Minangkabau motifs have complicated visuals in contrast to modern architectural designs that emphasize simple visuals with the application of geometric shapes and the use of neutral colors on each side of the building. In an effort to revitalize carving motifs, this research selected one of the existing carving motifs in Minangkabau, namely the Itaiak Pulang Patang motif as a traditional motif to be modernized. After research and analysis conducted in the effort to modernize traditional Minangkabau motifs, then exploration of the Itiak Pulang Patang motif was carried out with existing data. Through ceramic works in the form of tiles, the Itiak Pulang Patang motif is explored as a decorative element in modern interiors. In this way, it is expected to restore the existence of Minangkabau carving motifs as decorative elements of a building
