INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/74807 Mangrove ecosystem plays a vital role in providing ecological function as a natural carbon sequester and carbon storage to lower the increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the atmosphere. This study aims to determine the mangrove community structure and environmental characteristics and examine the potential mangrove aboveground, belowground, and soil carbon stocks in Pengarengan Estuarine, Cirebon Regency. Measurement of community structure and biomass estimation used a nondestructive method by measuring diameter at breast height (1,3 m) and only considering trees and saplings. Biomass carbon stock is estimated using an allometric equation and conversion factor. Sediment samples were taken using a sediment core to 100-150 cm depth and sampled at five representative depth intervals. Sediment organic carbon is determined using the Loss on Ignition (LOI) method and a conversion factor. Mangrove forest in Pengarengan Estuarine consists of Avicennia marina, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata, and Sonneratia alba with tree density ranging from 1.364-9.972 stand/ha and dominated by Rhizophora mucronata. Pengarengan Estuarine is located in Cirebon with a tidal range ranging from 0,61-1,23 m in January 2022-March2023. Marine water quality measurements showed that Pengarengan Estuarine is suitable for mangrove habitat. The current velocity measured is around 0,088-0,467 m/s. The results showed that the average total carbon stock is 288,60±90,54 MgC/Ha with details of 73,75±24,68 MgC/Ha in the biomass and 217,17±28,99 MgC/Ha in the sediment. Biomass carbon stock is significantly correlated with total basal area and total land cover (P<0,01). Soil carbon stock correlates significantly with organic carbon content (P<0,01). text |
