MESH DEPEDENCY STUDY USING NUMERICAL MODELING FOR DETERMINATION OF PLASTIC ZONE THICKNESS AROUND THE STOPE BASED ON MOHR-COULOMB CRITERIA
This underground mining activity has a high level of accident risk, therefore, there is a need for risk control such as designing a stable stope. The numerical approach using the finite element method can be one of the options used to support assessments and recommendations for stope design. The...

The numerical approach using the finite element method can be one of the options used to support assessments and recommendations for stope design. The recommendation for stope dimensions can be obtained from the numerical analysis results, which can base the recommendation on the thickness of the plastic zone (crushed zone). This zone represents a plastic deformation zone indicating the occurrence of rock mass collapse. In this research, a Mesh dependency study was conducted on the effect of the number of Mesh elements on the thickness of the plastic zone around the stope. The stope modeling was carried out using RS2 software with dimensions of 5 x 5 meters and a wall slope of 80????. The value of the thickness of the plastic zone in the stope depends on the number of elements and the number of points (nodes) used in the modeling. The relationship between the plastic zone and the Mesh fluctuates but the graph shows an upward trend, thereby it has a tendency for the plastic zone to increase as the number of elements increases. In addition, a variation of the k value is used, namely ???? ????, 1, and 2. This k value variation can affect the thickness of the plastic zone on the vertikal (roof-floor) and horizontal (wall) sides. text |

This underground mining activity has a high level of accident risk, therefore, there
is a need for risk control such as designing a stable stope. The numerical approach
using the finite element method can be one of the options used to support
assessments and recommendations for stope design. The recommendation for stope
dimensions can be obtained from the numerical analysis results, which can base the
recommendation on the thickness of the plastic zone (crushed zone). This zone
represents a plastic deformation zone indicating the occurrence of rock mass
collapse. In this research, a Mesh dependency study was conducted on the effect of
the number of Mesh elements on the thickness of the plastic zone around the stope.
The stope modeling was carried out using RS2 software with dimensions of 5 x 5
meters and a wall slope of 80????.
The value of the thickness of the plastic zone in the stope depends on the number
of elements and the number of points (nodes) used in the modeling. The relationship
between the plastic zone and the Mesh fluctuates but the graph shows an upward
trend, thereby it has a tendency for the plastic zone to increase as the number of
elements increases. In addition, a variation of the k value is used, namely ????
????, 1, and
2. This k value variation can affect the thickness of the plastic zone on the vertikal
(roof-floor) and horizontal (wall) sides. |
