Ganesha (KG) and Jatinangor Campus (KJTO) have various land cover types, e.g., vegetation, buildings, open areas, roads, and water bodies. Therefore, each campus takes a role in different ecological services such as maintaining biodiversity, mitigation of climate change and regulating temperature in urban area. This research was conducted to clarify the ability of each land cover to regulate temperature in Ganesha and Jatinangor campus. Sentinel-2 MSI (2019-2022) was used to classify the land cover and provide normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data, while Landsat 8 provided land surface temperature (LST) data. Temperature in each study area was measured using a data logger in February 2023. The study found that KG is dominated by buildings (50.9%), while vegetation dominates KJTO (41.75%). Due to establishment of new building and infrastructures, vegetation coverage changes in both campuses as shown in NDVI values from 2019 to 2022. In Ganesha campus the highest NDVI value was in 2019 (0.29) dan decreased in 2022 (0.11). The same trend is described also in Jatinangor campus that NDVI value decreasing dramatically due to development of infrastructure as a support system for academic atmosphere. In 2019, NDVI value in KJTO is 0.43 and decreased to 0.23 in 2022. The average observed temperature data showed significantly different among land cover, i.e., Buildings (22.9°C); roads (23.0°C); vegetation (21.5°C); open areas (22.5°C), and water bodies (21.7°C). However, there is a slightly different of temperature in KG i.e., buildings and roads (22.5°C); vegetation (22.6°C); open areas (23.2°C); and water bodies (22.5°C) due to wide canopy coverage of vegetation inside campus ang also surrounding areas. LST data in KG varies from 2019 to 2022 (the highest 2021: 38.7°C and the lowest in 2022: 32.4°C), while in KJTO the highest temperature reached 34.6°C in 2019 and the lowest in 2022: 31.8°C. The existence of vegetation and water bodies in both campuses lowered the temperatures up to 1.5°C (KG) and 2.2°C (KJTO). Therefore, preserving vegetation should be maintained as it provides lowering temperature in Ganesha and Jatinangor Campus. text |
