In December 2019 XMAN oilfield experienced problems with oil production loss due
to several factor of surface facilities problem: leakage of subsea pipeline, power supply
problem, etc. This incident had a negative impact on the performance of PEP Asset 3
caused the production target not to be achieved, increased maintenance costs, and lead
environmental issue.
Based on production data record 2020-2021, there were top 3 surface bad actor
identification that caused an contributor of oil loss production. The surface bad actor
could classify into 3 categories: leakage of 12” subsea pipeline MOL XAP - BLG, GTG
1A & 1B problem, and leakage of 12” subsea pipeline MOL XMA-XAP. To find the
root cause and the most dominant factor of the problem, the researcher carried out
Fishbone diagrams and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) combined with Pareto
diagrams.
By using the value-focused thinking method, the researcher and the team in the focus
group discussion develop alternatives that can be implemented to achieve the
fundamental objectives that have been set. There are 4 alternative solutions can be used
to solve this problem: Segmental replacement of 6 Km 12-inch subsea pipeline from
XAP to MOS Balongan, Total replacement 28 Km of 12-inch subsea pipeline from
XAP to MOS Balongan, Chemical Continues injection, Rent a floating production
storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. This research will use the Analytical Hierarchy
Process (AHP) method to determine the best solution. Based on the results of the
interviews obtained 3 criteria in the value tree. The criteria are in the form of Cost,
Benefit, and Risk. The Cost criteria has 2 sub-criteria, namely the capital cost and
operation & maintenance cost. the benefit criterion has 4 sub-criteria consisting of
operation ability, maintainability, oil gain and Installation time. And the last criterion
is risk, that has 1 sub-criteria: potential of hydrocarbon release or oil spill. The
calculations using the AHP methods obtained the Segmental replacement of 6 Km 12inch
subsea pipeline from
XAP to

Balongan
become
the best solution.
