Summary:Manado bay is a bay water with several uses, including fishing, transportation, and tourism, which increases the risk of pollution and endangers the biota that lives there. In addition, there are several river mouths that have the potential to carry garbage from the mainland. Hydrological conditions will be affected by the addition of organic and inorganic materials to the waters, which will lead to pollution and possibility of an abudance of small forms of garbage, namely microplastic. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of water pollution in Manado Bay based on saprobic plankton and the abundance of microplastics found. This research is centered along Manado Bay which has human activities around the coast. Datas in this study was carried out at four different locations: Malalayang Beach as a culinary and tourism destination, Muara Jengki Beach as a port area, Bailang Beach as a fishing location, and Mandolang Beach as a distant location for community activities. This study was carried out in September 2021, which represents the transitional two season.Based on the results, the saprobic coeficient varies from 1.0 to 1.71, with Muara Jengki Beach having the coeficient value for moderate-scale pollution levels. In general, the abudance of microplastics at various abservation sites varied, ranging from 2.86 to 71.43 particles/L. In sediments, the dominant type is fragment with the highest average total particle concertration of 2233.33 particles/kg across all studied locations. Microplastics have also been discovered in areas apart from human activity in major film forms. The results of the FTIR group analysis in Manado Bay show that there are types of Polystyrene (PS) polymers and nylon indicated that they had N-H functional groups. The C-H bending and N-H stretching FTIR groups were discovered.
