However, the current air quality monitoring system in Bandung Regency has limited coverage. This study examines the relationship between the conditions of LULC, aerosol optical depth (AOD) as an air quality indicator, and respiratory disease cases in three districts: Margaasih, Dayeuhkolot, and Ciparay. Secondary data are collected, LULC from Landsat 8 Level 2, AOD from MODIS Terra and Aqua Level 2, and respiratory disease cases from the available public health centers (PHC). Statistical analysis reveals that Margaasih has a high urban land percentage, Dayeuhkolot has a significant industrial presence, and Ciparay has extensive wet farmland. This study showed that Margaasih, Dayeuhkolot, and Ciparay have regional AOD of 0.27, 0.26, and 0.24, respectively. In terms of its temporal AOD, between 2017-2022, the AOD reached the highest average values in 2022. The spatial distribution of AOD demonstrates the influence of land use types on regional AOD levels, with urban contributing to higher AOD values in Margaasih and Ciparay and industrial areas in Dayeuhkolot. Correlation of respirtory diseases and AOD differ for each types of diseases. Notably, a very strong correlation (r = 0.85) between the incidence of asthma and AOD in Ciparay's Pakutandang PHC is discovered. By using AOD as an indicator, this study enhances our understanding of air pollution dynamics within different LULC and its impact on the public health. However, further research and continuous monitoring are needed to deepen our understanding and develop effective strategies for improved environmental health quality in Bandung Regency. text |

Land use and land cover (LULC) can impact air quality and public health.
However, the current air quality monitoring system in Bandung Regency has
limited coverage. This study examines the relationship between the conditions of
LULC, aerosol optical depth (AOD) as an air quality indicator, and respiratory
disease cases in three districts: Margaasih, Dayeuhkolot, and Ciparay. Secondary
data are collected, LULC from Landsat 8 Level 2, AOD from MODIS Terra and
Aqua Level 2, and respiratory disease cases from the available public health centers
(PHC). Statistical analysis reveals that Margaasih has a high urban land percentage,
Dayeuhkolot has a significant industrial presence, and Ciparay has extensive wet
farmland. This study showed that Margaasih, Dayeuhkolot, and Ciparay have
regional AOD of 0.27, 0.26, and 0.24, respectively. In terms of its temporal AOD,
between 2017-2022, the AOD reached the highest average values in 2022. The
spatial distribution of AOD demonstrates the influence of land use types on regional
AOD levels, with urban contributing to higher AOD values in Margaasih and
Ciparay and industrial areas in Dayeuhkolot. Correlation of respirtory diseases and
AOD differ for each types of diseases. Notably, a very strong correlation (r = 0.85)
between the incidence of asthma and AOD in Ciparay's Pakutandang PHC is
discovered. By using AOD as an indicator, this study enhances our understanding
of air pollution dynamics within different LULC and its impact on the public health.
However, further research and continuous monitoring are needed to deepen our
understanding and develop effective strategies for improved environmental health
quality in Bandung Regency. |
