Description
Summary:Aquaponic the result of the integration of aquaculture and hydroponics can be used as an alternative to the intensification of agricultural land. Red lettuce (Lettuce sativaVar. Crispa) and Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) are agricultural commodities that have government concerns for improving community nutrition and also fulfilling good criteria as an aquaponics component. Ammonia buildup causes problems in aquaponic practices that can damage the fish. Used biofilters such as bioball can help to reduce the substance. The addition of oyster shells is expected to provide additional functions to stabilize pH and water quality. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using biofilter with the addition of oyster shells (CKO) in the growth of red lettuce and tilapia and to determine the effect of plant position in the installation on the growth of red lettuce. A two-factor Randomized Block Design (RBD) was used, which CKO with bioball (1:1) and bioball only also ther is 10 plant positions with 6 replications. Measurements were made of plant growth and biomass, fish growth and survival, water quality (TDS, EC, and water pH), and environmental conditions. The data were processed using a two-way ANOVA test followed by the BNJ Tukey test with a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that the addition of CKO increased plant growth (number of leaves, fresh weight, and dry weight of plants) and fish growth (length, weigh,t and survival of fish). The position of the plant closest to the inlet (positions 1 and 2) provides the best growth for the plant (height, number of leaves, dry weigh,t and fresh weight of the plant) whereas the farther from the inlet the lower the resulting value
