Description
Summary:Saturated and unsaturated conditions in the soil cause the rise and fall of the shear strength in the soil, the phenomenon of ups and downs of shear strength in soil cannot be quantified by the theory of saturated soil mechanics, a new approach is needed, one of the theories of unsaturated soil mechanics. in the theory of unsaturated soil mechanics there is a phenomenon called matric suction ?? ?? ??? or it can be called negative pore water pressure. This negative pore water pressure phenomenon gives rise to a new parameter called ?b (phi b). In rock shale which often causes problems during construction, its behavior is influenced by the wet-dry cycle, which affects the shear strength of the shale. To determine the behavior of the shale, soil parameters are required through an unsaturated triaxial test. The unsaturated triaxial test carried out is a triaxial test to obtain shale parameters while at the same time developing an unsaturated triaxial tool as an early pioneer to introduce the theory of unsaturated soil mechanics in Indonesia. Shale samples were tested using the consolidated drained (CD) method with a matrix suction value ?? ?? ??? of 39.2 kPa. From the test results, the shale shear strength parameter is c=49,1 kPa ?? = 23° d =45,2kPa ?? =21,3°.
