MAGNETIC BASEMENT RELIEF MODELING USING THE MAGB_INV PROGRAM IN THE PASIR BASIN AREA, KALIMANTAN

Comprehensive interpretation for hydrocarbon exploration must begin with an understanding of the deep basement and proceed to the sediment section. A basin will have more potential for hydrocarbons if it has thick sediments. To find out the thickness of the sediment in a basin, it is necessary to...

A basin will have more potential for hydrocarbons if it has thick sediments. To find out the thickness of the sediment in a basin, it is necessary to find information on the depth of the magnetic basement. Therefore, a geophysical survey is needed that can provide information about the subsurface structure to identify the basin. One of the geophysical surveys can be carried out using the magnetic method. This method can provide information regarding the depth of the magnetic basement in the basin, which is then useful when calculating sediment thickness to provide additional information when conducting further exploration. The research area is located southwest of the Makassar Strait and southeast of Kalimantan Island. This area includes the Pasir Basin and the lower part of the Kutai Basin, which are separated by the Paternoster Fault. The Pasir Basin is a sedimentary basin that is also on the Paternoster Platform, which is a carbonate plain. This final project research was carried out by processing magnetic anomaly data using magnetic anomaly inversion modeling iteratively with the MATLAB-based MagB_Inv program to obtain a magnetic basement relief model for the Pasir Basin area, which will then be identified. In addition, bathymetry data for the Pasir Basin area are also used as supporting data for calculating sediment thickness. The depth of the magnetic basement relief in the Pasir Basin is in the range of 4.25 km to 9.93 km, with an average depth of 6.99 km, and the model is in accordance with existing geological and geophysical data. The results of the magnetic basement relief modeling in the study area show that the Pasir Basin has two deep basins that are good for further exploration because they have thicknesses of ±9.8 km and ±9 km, respectively text
