Summary:Flavonoids are group of natural products which are found in different plant tissues. They have C6-C3-C6 pattern which have two cyclic aromatics. Flavonoids are found in foods which are used for nutraceutical. Recent literatures show many probabilities to use flavonoids compounds for cancer chemotherapy, one of them is currently in phase III clinical trials. Based on the results of cytotoxicity tests, hydroxyl group in ring B and prenyl group in position 3 are important factors which determine bioactivity. Because of their low concentration in plants, it is difficult to use flavonoids for various applications, so they need to be synthesized. In this research, we successfully synthesized β-diketone which is a key compound for alkylated flavonoids synthesis. The structure of the transition state for ZnCl2 catalyzed reaction was found and its energy is lower than the one of the reaction without catalyst. Computational results show that acetyl chloride is better than acetic anhydride and acetic acid as substrate which are in agreement with empirical results.
