Description
Summary:Stability analysis of pillars is an important step in ensuring the safety and sustainability of underground mining operations using the room and pillar method. In this study, a mesh dependency study was conducted on the stability analysis of pillars. Mesh dependency study is a process to understand the influence of the number of mesh elements on the results of numerical modeling. In this study, a mesh dependency study was conducted by varying the number of nodes on the excavation from 50-250, which provided different numbers of mesh elements in numerical modeling. The rock was assumed to follow the Mohr- Coulomb criteria, and the data used for modeling and pillar geometry were secondary data. The results of the numerical modeling concluded that an increase in the number of mesh elements caused a decrease in the value of Strength Factor (SF) and Factor of Safety (FoS).
