However, the availability of public open spaces in urban village tends to be limited. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has further restricted children’s activities. The purpose of this research is to identify changes in the activity patterns of children in urban village regarding the use of public open spaces before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bandung Kulon subdistrict was selected as the study area because it’s the most densely populated area in the city of Bandung, particularly in Cijerah and Warung Muncang villages. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 children and interviews were conducted with the neighborhood heads and 10 representative parents as informants. Descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis, specifically the Wilcoxon test, were performed in this study. The research findings indicate a decline in children’s activities in public open spaces during the pandemic. Based on the Wilcoxon test, the pandemic had a significant impact on the frequency, duration, and interest level of children’s activities in public open spaces. Therefore, during the pandemic, children can be encouraged to continue their activities as usual, but while adhering to applicable health protocols, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Additionally, maintenance and development of existing public open spaces can be carried out to create a more comfortable environment for children to spend time engaging in activities outside their homes. This study provides input for policymaker and stakeholders involved in efforts to enhance the utilization of public open spaces in urban village, particularly for children. text |

Urban village refers to densely populated settlements un urban areas that tend to be
poorly organized, unregulated, and lacking adequate facilities and infrastructure.
Children, in general, require space or places to play and learn to explore their
surroundings. This also applies to children living in urban village. However, the
availability of public open spaces in urban village tends to be limited. Moreover, the
COVID-19 pandemic has further restricted children’s activities. The purpose of this
research is to identify changes in the activity patterns of children in urban village
regarding the use of public open spaces before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bandung Kulon subdistrict was selected as the study area because it’s the most
densely populated area in the city of Bandung, particularly in Cijerah and Warung
Muncang villages. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 children and interviews
were conducted with the neighborhood heads and 10 representative parents as
informants. Descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis, specifically the
Wilcoxon test, were performed in this study. The research findings indicate a decline
in children’s activities in public open spaces during the pandemic. Based on the
Wilcoxon test, the pandemic had a significant impact on the frequency, duration, and
interest level of children’s activities in public open spaces. Therefore, during the
pandemic, children can be encouraged to continue their activities as usual, but while
adhering to applicable health protocols, such as wearing masks and maintaining
social distancing. Additionally, maintenance and development of existing public open
spaces can be carried out to create a more comfortable environment for children to
spend time engaging in activities outside their homes. This study provides input for
policymaker and stakeholders involved in efforts to enhance the utilization of public
open spaces in urban village, particularly for children. |
