INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/75443 <p align="justify">The Tengger tribe is a community residing in the highlands of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru mountain area in East Java. They have inherited Hindu traditions since the time of the Majapahit Kingdom, which are still evident in the religious rituals they preserve to this day. The name "Tengger" has been known since the time of the Majapahit Kingdom and is considered a sacred land, with its inhabitants respected as servants of Sang Hyang Widi Wasa. The Tengger tribe holds various religious ceremonies and traditional rituals every month. The timing of these cultural events follows the Tengger calendar, which is derived from the Hindu calendar and falls under the category of the lunar-solar calendar. The "unan-unan" ritual is performed once every five years to establish the schedule for cultural events and determine auspicious days for weddings and other ceremonial activities. In this study, the author explores the rules used by the Tengger tribe concerning the astronomical system of the Tengger calendar. Research methods include interviews with the dukun pandhita (traditional leaders) in Tengger and literature studies. The research findings show that the Tengger tribe still relies on astronomy in their cultural way of life. text
