Based on cruising and transect methods at eight localities (Sipisang, Sipinang, Anai-I, Anai-ll, Anai-III, Salibutan and Lubuk Mata Kucing) during June - September 1995 a total of 32 amphibian species were collected, comprising of one species of Gymnophiona, Ichthyophis elongatus (Ichthyophiidae) and 31 anuran species, i.e., five species of Bufonidae, two Megophryidae, four Microhylidae, 15 Ranidae and five species of Rhacophoridae. A key for species identification was constructed based on the 32 amphibian species found. Results of cluster analyses of interspecific relationships among the anurans based on morphometric characteristics depicted in the form of dendrograms showed that the species of the genera of Limnonectes, Fejervarya, Rana and Microhyla formed a distinct group similar to their taxonomical relationships. The species group of the genera Bufo-Leptophryne Pelophryne formed a less distinct grouping. The other species groups consisting of a mixture of a part of the Bufonidae, Ranidae, Microhylidae and Rhacophoridae formed an indistinct grouping. Leptobrachium abbotti and Megophrys nasuta, of the Megophryidae family, formed a separate group which position was at the farthest distance than the other anuran species groupings. Species richness and index of abundance of total population of the anuran species at seven localities vary greatly. The highest index of abundance was found at Anai-HI locality (143 individuals. km-1.night-1) and the lowest was at Sipinang (28 individuals.km-1.night-1). Specimens sampled at seven localities in most species showed female per male sex ratios which differed very widely, ranging between 0.02 and 8.7. The lowest sex ratio was shown by Rana signata at Salibutan and the highest by Limnonectes kuhlii at the same. text |
