The extraction of the fresh "kencur" with hot ethanol yielded 1,11% pure ethyl p-methoxycinnamate with a melting point of 48o- 49oC. This compound is very potential as a base substance. in the synthesis of some cinnamate derivatives, due to its reactive functional groups such as olefin and ester groups, which are easily transformed to other functional groups. Addition of bromine to this ethyl p-methoxycinnamate in C014 at low temperature gave 80,53% dibromo ethyl pmethoxycinnamate with a melting point of 108o- 109oC. Reduction of ethyl p-methoxycinnamate by sodium in dry ethanol at 60oC, gave 2,43% p-methoxycinnamaldehide with a melting point of 88o- 89oC. text |
