An experimental apparatus was designed for the serial study of gastric acid secretion from the rat isolated gastric mucosa. This apparatus was then used to study induced acid secretion by known secretogogues, e.g acetylcholine and histamine. Gastric acid secretion in response to indomethacine was al...

This apparatus was then used to study induced acid secretion by known secretogogues, e.g acetylcholine and histamine. Gastric acid secretion in response to indomethacine was also studied on this preparation. Basal acid output was approximately 2.4Mmol H+cm-2 hour-1, and remained relatively constant throughout experimental period of 195 minutes. The secretory responses to histamine (5.4x10-3M) and to acetylcholine (5.5x10-311) showed a tendency to increase significantly above the basal output. The secretory response to indomethacine (2.8x10-3M) over three periods of 45 minutes was not significantly higher than the basal output. Acetylcholine and histamine showed some local effect. text
