EFFECT OF NANO PARTICLES TIO2 IN LOW SALINITY WATERFLOODING INJECTION IN ITS APPLICATION FOR ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY

Low salinity waterflooding is a method of enhanced oil recovery that can be applied to sandstone reservoirs with great potential and promise. Several approaches are proposed to better understand the mechanisms that occur in low salinity waterflooding, including modifying the water content by adding...

Several approaches are proposed to better understand the mechanisms that occur in low salinity waterflooding, including modifying the water content by adding Titanium dioxide nanoparticles which can reduce interfacial tension and promoting wettability alteration on rock surface to more water-wet that potentially aids the enhanced oil recovery. This study conducted various experiments, including interfacial tension test between oil and brine using a spinning drop tensiometer, contact angle test using an optical tensiometer between a solution of low salinity-NPs and thin section Berea core sandstone, and coreflooding tests. It was summarized that the Titanium dioxide NPs could potentially for enhanced oil recovery performance by supporting positive effect on increasing water wetness on rock surfaces of all variations in salinity. However, the interfacial tension decreased optimally only for 100 ppm nano concentration. Coreflooding tests showed that adding nanoparticles to a low salinity mixture at a concentration of 100 ppm nano improved oil recovery text
