In this contemporary phenomenon, religion is often used as an instrument for the interests of groups or individuals. It is also frequently used as a 'parameter' in determining social status or order. Through these events, religion is no longer sacred and often superficially interpreted for convenience and practicality, merely flaunting social status. This phenomenon leads to an effort to transform the iconography within the Catholic tradition through veiling and binding. The series of artworks called "The Veil of Light Bonds" is an attempt to realize the presence of God through the surrounding environment, in this case, the natural elements such as light and shadow. The creation of this artworks series utilizes oil paint as the medium, with a polyptych composition technique. Iconic figures like Jesus Christ or Mother Mary, and their common visual depictions, are not the primary concern to be reproduced in the artwork anymore. Instead, a new surface emerges, that eventually cover these icons, by veils and all its creases, by radiance of light or the dark of shadows, and bonds - a 'facade'. By being "covered" to be fully "revealed," so that we can realize. text |
