Description
Summary:Tourism is one of the sectors with considerable potential for economic growth, making it a sector that will continue to be developed, especially with the existence of three beach tourism destinations managed by the Department of Tourism and Culture of Garut Regency. Two of these destinations are Sayang Heulang Beach and Santolo Beach. Considering the possibility of continuous development in the tourism sector, coupled with threats such as overcrowding and overtourism that can cause environmental damage, as well as poor management that could jeopardize the local economy and culture, this research is conducted to identify the tourism conditions of Sayang Heulang Beach and Santolo Beach and to formulate recommendations for their tourism development strategies based on sustainable tourism principles. Primary data is obtained through observations and interviews, while secondary data is gathered from literature and online news sources. The data is analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods, scoring analysis, and spatial analysis. The identification of existing conditions reveals that the tourism conditions of both destinations, in terms of tourism products and sustainability principles, are still not optimal. The results of the review of both beaches are then compared, showing that the aspects that are not yet optimal, both in terms of tourism products and sustainability, are similar, although there are differences related to the completeness of the products and management aspects. The Development Strategy is formulated based on the identification of the conditions of both beaches, and the strategies proposed are efforts that can be undertaken to improve the conditions of both tourism products and sustainable tourism aspects that are still suboptimal. The strategies are developed using the Local Wisdom Tourism approach, which involves leveraging the local community's wisdom, followed by strategies to enhance the capacity of the local community, strategies for local economic development, the provision of eco-friendly infrastructure, and the availability of tourism products. This research indicates that the suboptimal conditions of Sayang Heulang Beach and Santolo Beach's tourism can be improved with the formulation of sustainable tourism development strategies, providing a reference for the development of beach tourism in Garut Regency.
