This feeling is similar whenever the writer were to face nature landscapes. The emotion that was felt could indeed be sublime. Mix of awe, resignation, reluctance, and horror becomes one. The paradox that the feeling of sublime oozes also apparent in the conception of sujood. Where a servant of God prostate that’s the point where he is the closest to Allah SWT. The writer then formulates visuals that can represent sublime feeling in sujood with landscapes. The writer creates keywords that derived from sublime for visual keys that are pursued. As for the basis that the writer works from uses the sublime theory from Immanuel Kant and art as expression. The work making process begins with theoretical study related to the work. Followed with surveys on natural landscapes, taking notes and photos to be studied further in studio. From the gathered photos the writer chose six photos that best suit the keywords. Then from the selected photos the writer tried to create rough sketches for visual exploration using soft pastels on craft paper. Lastly, paint on canvas. The writer paints from the impression of nature. Major visual alteration happens to colors. The writer utilizes color temperature as a mode for conveying the sublime experience. Oil paint becomes the medium of choice because it’s flexible nature. Can be piled and blended with ease. The result of this work becomes a landscape with a series of highly saturated colors. Losing the natural touch a la landscape paintings, replaced with odd atmosphere. The juxtaposition between the sky and the land are always present on each canvas that comes from varied landscape portraits. In conclusion the work “Submission” eternalizes the writer’s proccess of perfecting sujood. But in the face of ‘bigger force’ the feeling that were felt couldn’t be expressed accurately because due to the limitation of the sense. With this work the author can try to express what the writer feels, then convey it back to the observers. text
