Summary: | The number of child violence cases in Indonesia increased in 2021 compared to 2020, while the government's provided facilities for child protection and rehabilitation of the impact of violence on children remain minimal. This background necessitates the need for special facilities for child protection and trauma rehabilitation for victims in Indonesia. As a means of protecting child victims of violence, this project consists of a main function called the Child Protection Center, which accommodates service facilities for child violence cases, including complaint services, legal support, healthcare, rehabilitation, and special protection. Additionally, as an effort to raise public awareness regarding child protection, this project provides facilities for community education activities.
The project occupies a land area of 4500m2 in Ciumbuleuit, Bandung City, with Bandung being the city with the highest number of child violence victims in West Java. The design issue of this project lies in providing all child protection facilities within one environment, creating an environment that aids trauma healing, and establishing a child-friendly setting. The main concept of the design focuses on the safety of facility users and Trauma-Informed Design that responds to four forms of trauma reactions. The rooms are grouped based on their functions and arranged according to the service flow. Building security is achieved by implementing a one-gate system, with a front desk serving as the main access control overseeing the facility's visitor traffic. In the rehabilitation area, rooms are organized based on activity levels and noise considerations.
The project consists of two buildings with two floors connected by a corridor and stairs. The site's context, which intersects with two roads, allows the building to have a secondary entrance on Jl.Gn.Putri on the north side of the site as a special access and emergency route to the safe house facility. The site's contoured context also makes the second floor on the north side equivalent to the first floor from Jl. Gn. Putri's direction, which serves as the entrance to the safe house facility. Additionally, the site's west-facing context results in the building utilizing a secondary facade made of perforated metal sheets designed with bright colors in accordance with the characteristics of children.
