Summary: | Artists, in the process of creating art, always have a background narrative that affects them, both internally and externally. The writer's desire to better understand human expression and have real connections with other people outside the world of social media in an all-digital world today is the key in the making of this work.
The younger generation, or better known as Gen-Z and the screen generation, is a generation that has grown up and grown with technology. Advances in technology are now making it easier for humans to connect with other people without the need to meet, this was especially necessary during the Covid-19 pandemic. Social media has become essential as a form of communication and entertainment as many people become addicted or often referred to as "chronically online" because they cannot meet real people for a long time. This addiction makes many people numb in dealing with other people's emotions directly in the real world. Therefore, the younger generation who grew up in the digital world do not get much experience socializing in the real world which is different from the previous generation.
The author creates an artwork that focuses on the reflection of human expression that feels unnatural within the digital world, using the appropriate selection of techniques and mediums to convey the subject matter, linocut printmaking technique on the surface of a one-way mirror. Visuals that are conveyed in this work consist of modifications of six expressions that are often seen in the real world and the digital world.
