CARBON STOCK ESTIMATION IN MANGROVE VEGETATION BASED ON ABOVEGROUND BIOMASS AT PANGENAN COASTAL AREA, CIREBON REGENCY
Mangrove forests are one of the coastal ecosystems that play an important role in carbon storage and sequestration, hence the term 'blue carbon habitat'. With 22.6% of the world's mangrove population found in Indonesia, this shows the high potential of Indonesia in carbon storage and...

With 22.6% of the world's mangrove population found in Indonesia, this shows the high potential of Indonesia in carbon storage and the importance of preserving mangrove ecosystems. This study focuses on estimating carbon stocks in the mangrove area of Pangenan Coastal Area, Cirebon Regency, based on the aboveground biomass content with tree trunk height estimated by Canopy Height Model (CHM) as input to the three allometric equations used. Two surveys were conducted on 27 January 2023 and 7 March 2023 for mangrove area image retrieval in the area of interest. The CHM was formed by utilizing the Digital Surface Model (DSM) and Digital Terrain Model (DTM) obtained from drone imagery and field observations. Biomass estimation was conducted using the CHM estimated height applied to the empirical equation from the regression model between the CHM estimated height value and the observed stem height (r = 0.889 for arithmetic height and r = 0.951 for Lorey height). By converting 50% of the estimated biomass values, the average carbon stock values in the study area were found to be in the range of 20.72-43.88 tonC/ha (R2 > 0.85). text |
