In 1999 in Sambas, West Kalimantan, there was a tragedy of conflict involving
ethnic groups in Indonesia, the ethnic groups involved were Madurese and a
combination of Dayak-Malays. The conflict occurred several months after the fall
of Soehato's New Order power. The horizontal conflicts that occurred were due to
social tensions and economic disparities between ethnic groups.
Through the medium of performance art and using postmemory theory, it is an

generation to the next, these traumatic feelings are passed down from the
generation directly involved to the next. In Ziarah's work, the involvement of bodies
and events as well as political territorial landscapes are important in works of art
that are used as a medium of reconciliation. The creation of Ziarah's works uses the
medium of performance art, which is recorded in the form of works of art in the
form of documentary photography and documentary videos, as well as artifacts that
are used or produced when performance art events take place. The performance
art took place throughout the journey, starting from Madura, crossing the Java Sea,
then heading to Pontianak and continuing the overland journey to Sambas. The
journey is entitled "Pilgrimage". One method of postmemory is carried out by
means of a returning journey, a journey to revisit sites that are considered
