INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/75988 <p align="justify">The increase of population and urbanization has led to an increase in the demand for electricity. However, until now, the main source of energy used in Indonesia comes from coal combustion, which can contribute to global warming due to the increased greenhouse gas emissions. As humans spend a significant amount of time indoors, it is crucial to reduce the rate of global warming and create energy-efficient buildings that provide comfort for occupants. The installation of solar panels on rooftops has been identified as a potential solution to generate energy and reduce carbon emissions. However, the impact of rooftop solar panel installation on the cooling load of buildings has not been extensively studied, particularly in hot and humid climates like Tegal, Indonesia. In this study, the influence of rooftop solar panel installation on room temperature and cooling load of the Tegal Experimental House, a prototype building designed with energy-saving concepts, will be estimated using the Designbuilder software. The simulation results of room temperature and roof surface temperature will be compared with on-site measurements for validation. Subsequently, cooling load simulations will be conducted by considering input data on internal loads and occupancy schedules. Additionally, a similar simulation will be performed using the construction of a typical high-rise residential building in Indonesia. The measurement results indicate a decrease in roof surface temperature when covered with solar panels. The simulation results of the building cooling load with the Tegal Experimental House construction indicate a consecutive decrease in both room cooling load and overall building cooling load after the addition of solar panels on the roof, reducing the cooling load by 5.7% and 1.95% respectively during the dry season in Tegal. Additionally, for typical high-rise residential buildings construction in Indonesia, there is a consecutive decrease in room cooling load and overall building cooling load by 16% and 6.57% respectively during the dry season in Tegal. text
