Description
Summary:Salt production in Indonesia has started to develop rapidly after the establishment of Presidential Regulation (PP) of the Republic of Indonesia No. 109 of 2020 regarding the Acceleration of National Strategic Projects Implementation. One of the main salt production areas in Indonesia is located in West Java, namely in Cirebon and Indramayu Regencies. Salt production in these two regions are still using traditional methods, and its level is influenced by local metocean conditions such as relative humidity, evaporation rate, precipitation rate, salinity, sea surface temperature, and wind speed. Salt production in both locations increased from 2017 to 2019 and decreased rapidly in 2020-2021. Based on Pearson correlations, both locations have a high correlation coefficient with evaporation rate and relative humidity. Correlation coefficient value for evaporation rate with salt production are 0.76 in Cirebon Regency and 0.75 in Indramayu Regency, meanwhile the correlation coefficient value for relative humidity and salt production are -0.66 in Cirebon Regency and -0.65 in Indramayu Regency. Although the correlation level of other parameters does not directly affect salt production, they are correlated with relative humidity and evaporation rate. Based on the measurements, there are heavy metal that exceed the maximum quality standards according to Attachment VI of Law No. 22 of 2021 in the raw materials used for salt production in five reviewed districts. The heavy metals that exceed the maximum quality standards are arsenic (As) and copper (Cu). High arsenic value is found in Losarang B, Pangenan, Eretan, and Mundu, with a maximum value of 0.227 mg/L in Losarang B. Copper value exceeds the quality standard level in all locations, with the highest value found in Eretan, with 0.197 mg/L of Copper. High levels of dissolved metals will result in a decrease in the quality standards of salt products.
