Summary:The lack of literacy skill of Indonesian children especially in rural area, is no longer a new problem for education world. There are several factors that can influence it, such as a lack of reading habits instilled from an early age, inadequate facilities and lack of quality educational facilities, including the low availability of interesting reading for children, especially early childhood. Folklore is an ancient literary work that started from the oral, along with the times developed into written story that accompanied by illustrations to make the story more interesting. Folklore is a part of fiction that tend to be like by children and has a moral message in it. Every region in Indonesia has different types of folklore, and each story has a different moral message according the local culture. Therefore, this folklore is suitable as a means of literacy for children. So, this book was designed based on a local folklore, which aims to be an effective medium to improve children’s literacy skills. It is hoped, that this book can attract children’s attention and increase the desire to read as well as get to know one of the region folklore in Indonesia.
