Description
Summary:The low food productivity in urban areas is caused due to lack of productive agricultural land in line with the increasing population in urban areas. Therefore, urban agriculture is considered to be one of the solutions or anticipatory steps in ensuring the availability of food independently. It is known that urban agriculture has a variety of effects, most of which illustrate that urban agriculture has positive effects. However, in practice, there are various obstacles that are encountered so urban agricultural practices often experience discontinued implementation. In addition, most urban communities are engaged in non-primary sectors so it can become an issue that urban agriculture is new for urban communities and novelty has a bouncing effect that can create various consequences. This study aims to explore the consequences that society receives as a result of adopting urban agriculture. The research substance adapts based on Rogers' concept of innovation consequences which is limited to discussing only 3 (three) classifications of consequences, namely undesirable consequences, indirect consequences, and unanticipated consequences. The approach in this study uses a case study approach with qualitative analysis methods. The results of this study indicate that the consequences resulting from adopting urban agriculture have far-reaching consequences, not only for adopters and non-adopters but also for the social system. These consequences occur because of the limitations and inability of the roles of change agents and opinion leaders as carriers of innovation (urban agriculture) and channels of innovation communication to potential adopters in communicating and anticipating developing consequences. This thesis will contribute to enriching the literature regarding the effects of adopting urban agriculture for adopters, non-adopters, and social systems where urban farming is implemented from another perspective.
